Puzzling…

Every week when we go to music class, Jamie asks if he can buy a toy from the lobby of the music studio.  The brilliant ladies who run his music program keep the lobby FULL of great, educational toys and my son wants them ALL.  Some weeks, if he’s been exceptionally well behaved, or if he’s gotten all his magnets on his chore/behavior chart I consent.  I do my best to keep to the smaller, less expensive items but every once in a while I get just as excited about the toy in question and he gets an extra special treat.

This week, Jamie is finally back to sleeping all night long in his bed and waiting for his “light” to turn on letting him know it’s ok to come into our room.  That calls for a big prize.  What did Jamie pick out?  A 100 piece pirate puzzle.

It took Jamie less than a week to complete his puzzle.  By the end, the only way to be able to reach the center section was to climb up on the table.

Clearly, puzzles are best done in pajamas while wearing an eye mask as a headband.

Helen, we use a nightlight on a timer but they sell lots of different ones with changing colors or images that let your child know it's ok to get out of bed/come out of their room. It took us about a week for the concept to work but it's been effective. for a while, we had to bribe him to wait for the light to turn on before coming into our room.
